After more than 12 hours of searching, Eduard Yair, a 2-year-old boy who disappeared at the Huechen Balam police station in the municipality of Yaxcabá, has not been located. The community, along with state and municipal authorities, continues working to find the child.
According to witnesses, the child was reported missing last Sunday morning, around 9:00 a.m., when he went out into the yard of his house while his parents were tending to their chickens. Minutes later, the child wandered into an area adjacent to the woods, disappearing from sight.
Neighbors, volunteer brigades, and authorities have combed a 5-kilometer radius around the area where the child went missing. In addition, specialized resources, such as search dogs, thermal drones, and Civil Protection personnel, have been deployed to expedite the child’s location.
So far, footprints and some drawings have been found in the ground that suggest the boy may have moved east of the community.
The community, rooted in its Mayan traditions, does not rule out the possibility that the Aluxes, mystical beings of the Mayan worldview, may have been involved in the boy’s disappearance. Based on this belief, a Mayan priest went to the scene to offer prayers and ask the guardians of the forest to return the child safe and sound.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may help locate Eduard Yair. If anyone has information about his whereabouts, they are asked to contact local authorities immediately.
