A Canadian woman attempted to block residents from accessing Santa Clara Beach and threw eggs at the swimmers’ cars.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 16, when the woman confronted residents camping on Santa Clara Beach in Dzidzantún. The woman argued that they were on “private property.”
In Mexico, the General Law of National Property prohibits the privatization of beaches. This law establishes that beaches are national property for public use.
The woman, visibly upset, even threw eggs at the family’s vehicle. They were simply looking to spend a quiet day at the beach. Although the victims tried to explain to the foreign woman that access to the beach was free, she yelled at them to leave.
