Due to the Easter holidays, the Mérida airport declared itself ready to serve the thousands of passengers departing or arriving by air, according to Óscar Carrillo Maldonado, airport manager. He explained that they expect a daily flow of 11,000 people during this period.
He mentioned that the 11,000 people who can arrive or depart the state through the airport during this holiday period represents a 10 percent increase compared to a normal day, since, since the beginning of this year, the daily average of passengers has been around 10,000.
He indicated that while the number of commercial operations, which is 80 daily, will not increase, the occupancy rate for these trips will increase, which is high, contributing to this daily increase in passenger flow. Passengers regularly arrive from Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
Regarding international flights, he highlighted high occupancy rates to destinations such as Houston and Miami, and that the route to Toronto is nearing completion, which had a positive balance during this winter period, with seat occupancy at 85 percent.
“The Toronto route, which ends around April, has been doing very well since the start of the winter season, as many people from the northern United States and Canada came to Mexico to spend the winter, precisely because of the cold storms that occur in that area. So, it did have a significant occupancy rate of 85 percent,” he said.
