Accused of intimidating a woman and causing damage to a cafeteria in downtown Mérida, Joan S.M. was charged on Saturday, March 8th, with the crimes of damage to another’s property, threats, and insults, following the complaint filed for the events that occurred last week, for which he will remain in preventive detention.
After executing a search and arrest warrant by personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and agents from the State Investigation Police (PEI) of the SSP, the accused was presented before the Second Control Judge based in Mérida, where charges were filed against him for the events that occurred on February 25.
The prosecutors charged the aforementioned crimes and argued for the link to the process, but the defendant, who is of Spanish origin and Mexican nationality, requested that his situation be resolved within the constitutional period of 144 hours, the reason why the judicial authority summoned the parties to resume the hearing on March 13.
The evidence gathered by the specialists of the Prosecutor’s Office under criminal case 130/2025 establishes that in the early morning hours of February 25, the defendant went to the cafeteria that is located next to the property where he lives and carried out intimidating acts against the employee of the place, in addition to causing material damage inside the premises. The facts are caught on video.
Before concluding today’s hearing, this social representation presented the arguments to request the imposition of precautionary measures, for which the Control Judge established that the defendant will remain deprived of his liberty for the entire duration of the process.
