Experts are concerned that the disturbance is forming outside of hurricane season.

Although the 2025 hurricane season formally begins on June 1, the National Hurricane Center issued an unusual warning regarding the first hurricane formation in the Atlantic Ocean this year.

Although the disturbance is located nearly 3,000 kilometers away from Quintana Roo, northeast of the Leeward Islands, various local, national, and international authorities recommend monitoring its path.

This low-pressure system presents winds and a large area of disorganized rain and thunderstorms, although the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.

The emergence of this first low-pressure zone is drawing the attention of specialists. There are approximately two months and 19 days left until the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, but this does not mean that cyclones will arrive early in 2025.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that, so far, no special tropical weather outlooks have been scheduled for this system, unless conditions warrant it. Regular forecasts will begin as planned on May 15 of this year.

The emergence of this system in March, well before the formal start of the season, has sparked interest in studying these weather patterns and the possibility of a more active 2025 hurricane season than expected.

The Quintana Roo State Civil Protection Coordination (Coeproc) issued a statement yesterday warning of the formation of a low-pressure zone in the northeast of the Lesser Antilles, more than 3,000 kilometers off the state’s coast.

According to the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the low-pressure zone currently has a 10 percent chance of developing into a cyclone in the next 48 hours, a percentage that remains the same over seven days.

Cold Front 35 is located east of the Yucatan Peninsula and, combined with the influx of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, is expected to cause intermittent rain and showers; in the southeast of the country, with heavy rains in Chiapas.

Meanwhile, the cold air mass associated with the front will maintain a very strong to intense “norte” event in the southern Gulf of Mexico coast, the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec. It will also maintain a cooling of temperatures in southeastern Mexico and the Peninsula.
