The young woman received a call to lock herself up in the bathrooms of a shopping mall.

The mother of a 17-year-old girl, who was extorted by phone, asked for help from officers of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Yucatán who were patrolling the area and prevented the fraud.

The woman said that a male voice threatened her with publishing photos of her daughter, but suspecting that it was a scam, she told what happened to state police officers.

For her part, the teenager received another call in which she was told to leave her house in the West of Mérida and lock herself in the bathrooms of a nearby shopping mall because if she did not, her mother would be hurt.

The frightened young woman believed the threat, but soon after, thanks to the fact that her mother called the police for help, a search operation was set up, and she was found safe and sound.

The Public Security Secretariat reiterates its call to citizens to hang up and immediately report the incident to the nearest units or the 9-1-1 emergency number in situations like this.

In this way, the agency points out that between citizens and government, extortion is prevented and fought, and the integrity and property of the people of Merida are protected.
