MÉRIDA(Times Media Mexico).- Of chile, sweet and butter… and of almost 30 varieties more will be the tamales that will be exhibited and sold in”La Primera Feria Internacional Del Tamal” that will reside in Merida.

The event will take place Saturday, November 30, from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at La Mejorada Park.

Participants will include representatives from Yucatan, Veracruz, Mexico City and, as a special guest, Colombia.

The Colombian community in Yucatan will offer not only a sample of its tamale tradition, but also a gastronomic tasting, as well as cultural and artistic paintings of the South American country.

Prices and variety of tamales

With prices ranging from $15 to $35, attendees to the fair ( estimate of up to 5,000 people) can enjoy everything from the most typical and traditional Yucatan tamales to national specialties and even the renowned costeño tamale from Barranquilla, Colombia.

This Colombian tamale, with the exception of the majority, is made with dough that is not made from corn, but from rice.

A culinary tradition

27 styles of tamales will be offered, including some made with rabbit, chicharrón or chocolate, which will test the attendees who are looking for something different and original.

“The fair is being organized for the first time in Merida and the objective is to spread the culinary tradition of tamales, a dish with strong roots in Latin America where corn is the basis of food,” explained Alberto Lavalle, the organizer.
