QUINATANA ROO, (December 24, 2021).- Although the new variant of Covid-19, Ómicron, already reports cases in Mexico and the world, hotels already have 75% of their rooms reserved for the winter season, and they continue to respond to requests.
The president of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, Roberto Cintrón Gómez, said that they are recovering the market that plans their vacations in advance, which is benefiting the reactivation, as the occupancy streak will continue and they hope to close the year with 100%.
“Something that brought about the pandemic was that the traveler stopped booking their vacations long in advance, and they do so with approximately two weeks, and each time they have a new variant, an uncertainty grows; however, this is not happening in Quintana Roo, and we already have reservations.”

Opening the year with book reservations is a good indicator that the Mexican Caribbean is starting well, and although February is slower, there are also reservations that are the result of the promotion and good practices of the lodging centers to attend the pandemic.
Hotel occupancy
- 75.6% – Cancun
- 68% – Puerto Morelos
- 77% – Isla Mujeres continental zone
The hotels were opened last year and with this began flights from different parts of the world, even the offer from Europe is growing, which until now has not paused its flights despite cases of coronavirus.
He explained that they continue to apply health protocols, despite the fact that the first stage is already at the epidemiological green light, and even this for tourism such as the North American gives greater confidence and leads them to choose to vacation here.
He reported that it will be from December 26 when there is a greater occupation, because even on Christmas Eve many choose to spend it at home with family, and that is why 100% occupation will be seen for the last week, although now they are already above 77%.
“We hope that the pandemic continues to decline and does not affect tourism, as it did last year; we trust that vaccination and the responsibility of taking care of ourselves will help us ” , he commented.
