Strong recovery of the State, despite the pandemic, during the fourth quarter of last year.

MÉRIDA, Yucatán.- During the fourth quarter of 2021, Yucatán ranked among the four states that generated the most jobs at the national level. The employment rate in the State reached 97.9 percent, only behind Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Baja California.

The National Occupation and Employment Survey, New Edition, published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), reported that Yucatan also ranked among the top states with the highest participation rates in Mexico’s economic activity.

The federal agency reported that the employment rate, which represents people who worked in the week before the interview or who did not work but maintained an employment link with the economic unit for which they work, shows the ten states with the highest percentage generated.

Guerrero, 98.6 percent; Oaxaca, 98.5 percent; Baja California, 98.1 percent; Yucatán, 97.9 percent; and Morelos, 97.6 percent.

In addition to Michoacán de Ocampo (97.5), Baja California Sur and Nayarit (97.4, each), Hidalgo and Sinaloa (97.3 both), Zacatecas (97.2) and Chihuahua (97.1 percent).

It was highlighted that Yucatan, with 64.9 percent, ranked among the top states with the highest participation rates in national economic activity, only below Colima, with 67.9 percent; Baja California Sur, with 67.1; Nayarit, 65.1; Quintana Roo, 64.2; and Sonora, with 63.7 percent.

The head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Labor (Sefoet), Ernesto Herrera Novelo, highlighted that last year’s closing was positive and better than estimated, as there was a constant recovery of the employment lost during the critical days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last October alone showed the highest number of workers registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Yucatan, with 394,110 jobs. However, in 2019 there were only 388,658.
