Mexican filmmaker says there is a lot of talent in the state and thinks there should be a film school.

Mexican filmmaker, José Antonio Elo Lagarde, currently making a production in Nigeria, visited Yucatán, where he will hold a MasterClass and a production seminar for young artists, in which he will teach them from start to finish how to make short films and movies. In addition, he affirmed that there is a lot of talent in the state, and regretted that there is no film school.

He was invited by Cine Con, which is a project that aims to promote the creative industries in the film sector in the State of Yucatán and is run by Mario Arnal. Elo Lagarde will teach young people about film production, and affirmed that the state not only has talented young people with a bright future, but also a very rich culture and wonderful landscapes that could be the perfect locations to develop projects.

” My goal is to teach the basics of how to produce a film. What I try to do in each of my classes is to share my knowledge – it’s not just that they leave knowing how to make a short film as in any workshop, which can be very useful, but what I try to do is to teach them how to make a feature-length fiction film and also a documentary. I’ ve seen that there is a lot of talent here and some incredible places that could be used to make projects, unfortunately, not knowing how to make films or work on the development of audiovisual ideas is wasted, at the end of the day, people from outside end up taking advantage of it,” he explained.

Elo Lagarde expressed his sadness at seeing that there are no public schools that integrate careers linked to filmmaking and affirmed that there are many opportunities today, because the new generations have not only technology, but also unstoppable creativity.

“It is unfortunate that there is no progress and student development in this subject, currently the new generations have a much more innovative vision and in art that is a virtue. Sometimes they say, there is no demand, but there is”, he said.

The MasterClass will be given today at 6:00 p.m. at Humble Centro de Capacitación, on 56B Street No. 485 between 17 and 19 Colonia Buenavista; admission is free.
