Yucatan registers a lower incidence of mortality due to diabetes mellitus

Yucatan ranks as the sixth state with the lowest mortality from diabetes mellitus, according to 2021 data reported today by INEGI.

(Reporteros Hoy).- Baja California has 5.1, Sinaloa 5.8, Quintana Roo 5.9, Aguascalientes 6.0, Sonora 6.0, and immediately after in sixth place is Yucatan with 6.3 deaths per 10,000 inhabitants.

To commemorate World Diabetes Day, which is commemorated on November 14, INEGI revealed information based on figures from the statistics of deaths registered in 2021 and from the national health and nutrition survey.

In the country, 13% of deaths were due to this disease, of which 74.9% were not insulin-dependent and 2.2% were insulin-dependent.

Of the total number of deaths, 51% were men and 49% were women. The national mortality rate for diabetes mellitus is 11.0 per 10,000 inhabitants.

Of the population affiliated with health services that died, 67% were IMSS and 14% were ISSSTE affiliates.
