Once again Merida’s Periférico became the scene of a fatal incident, after a person was run over on Saturday night in the western part of the city while attempting to cross the highway.

Late at night, members of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of Yucatan received a report of a lifeless body on the bridge located at kilometer 40 of the Merida ring road, on the exit to Ciudad Caucel.

The incident occurred near Jacinto Canek Avenue and it was around 10:30 p.m. when the uniformed officers learned that a man was dead on the SSP base located at that point.

Although the victim remained unknown until the evening, it was learned that he was a homeless person who was walking on the Merida peripheral road from south to north.

When he came down from the bridge he was hit by a car which dragged him several meters to the top of the bridge, where he was again hit by other vehicles.

Due to the lack of lighting and the spot where the body was left, it was impossible for motorists to stop before seeing it, causing the corpse to be torn to pieces.

Even the metal barrier of the bridge was stained with the blood of the victim.

People passing by were in charge of calling the emergency number 911.

It did not take long for the SSP to arrive at the crime scene, as a control base is located under the same bridge.

Upon confirming that the victim was dead, they cordoned off the area, closed one lane of the peripheral at kilometer 40+400 and notified the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Elements of the State Investigation Police (PEI) and the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) also arrived at the scene, who were in charge of the expert work and the removal of the body and its remains to take them to the morgue.
