People who visit, live or work in the surroundings of the Center of Mérida, will have at their disposal the Gran Parque La Plancha , a new space for fun and recreation that will have green areas, an artificial lake, an amphitheater and other amenities, which position it as the ‘ Central Park ‘ of the Yucatecan capital.
In the center of Mérida there are numerous parks but none will have the special attractions and history that the Gran Parque la Plancha will house, since it is built on what was the old railway station.
With an investment of 1.3 billion pesos, the site will have 4 sections, green areas, covered walkways and bike paths.
What can you do in the ‘Central Park’ of Mérida?
For the presentation of cultural events there will be an amphitheater for 10,000 people, accompanied by an artificial lake of more than 13,000 square meters.
To learn about history and science in the place will be the Museum of Light and the Railway Museum.
If people are looking for food, there will be a gastronomic market and dining area in case they bring their food; And if they go with their pets, there will be a Pet Park area.
If the visitors like to play sports, there will be an outdoor gym, bike path and a skating rink.
Likewise, for children there will be 8 children’s play areas.
IE-Tram station
The park will have an IE-Tram station, which will take passengers arriving from the Mayan Train to Teya to the Center of Mérida, while being linked to the other routes.
Four sections with different attractions
The Gran Parque La Plancha will be divided into 4 sections, of which the first will house the outdoor gym, the wagon concessions and the powerhouse.
In the second, there will be the children’s games, the interactive fountain and the dining rooms.
In the third, there will be the access, the reflecting pool, the skating rink, the Pet Park and the gastronomic market.
In the fourth, the amphitheater, children’s games and a large lake will be located.
All of them with walkways, and bathroom modules, and parking.
Housing Relocation
It was also announced that the houses that are currently on this surface are going to be relocated to a side area.
For this, 220 square meter homes will be built, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and additional rooms.
In planning the site, the proposal for a metropolitan park made by the Faculty of Architecture and the Yucateco College of Architects in 1994 was taken into account.
Also, the proposal for a “Knowledge Station” promoted by the Patronato del Centro Histórico 2012 was taken into account.
