Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi presented this afternoon the results report of the Progreso Carnival 2023, accompanied by members of the Organizing Committee; during this, the mayor spoke about the positioning that the port acquired internationally, as well as the proceeds, which will be used, as in other editions, in improvements in public services and, on this occasion, in maintenance work for the church of the Immaculate Conception and San José de Progreso.
In his speech, Zacarías Curi also emphasized that this Carnival left a lot for the families and businesses that depend on it, since from February 8 to 25, more than 1 million visitors were received in Progreso, which generated a demand for services and an increase in the sale of local products.
In this regard, entrepreneurs, service providers, street vendors, businesses, and establishments benefited from the economic flow generated during the carnival festivities, and at the same time, more than 25 thousand direct and indirect jobs were created. Talking about hotel occupancy, Progreso reported 100 percent of its capacity, that is, more than 2,500 rooms booked months in advance.
Likewise, Zacarías Curi spoke of the international impact of the Carnival, with the arrivals of cruise ships Radiance of the Seas, Sea Cloud Spirit, and Disney Magic, which brought a little more than 4,397 passengers who also enjoyed the festivities, living a pleasant experience.
Regarding sustainability, during 2023, the Carnival Committee implemented the “Green Team” strategy collecting over 400 tons of garbage throughout the dates of the Carnival.
Finally, the mayor and members of the Carnival Committee thanked the support of City Hall collaborators, but above all the trust of the citizens and sponsors to make this Carnival the most awaited in all Yucatan.
“We have been working for months to provide an organized, quality, and one hundred percent family-oriented celebration. Now, Easter is coming and we are preparing to receive, once again, millions of visitors who choose our Port as their favorite place to rest and enjoy the benefits of the beach”, Mayor Julian Zacarias concluded.
