So far this year there are 350 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the state, a situation derived from the early rains that occurred a few weeks ago. For this reason, continuous surveillance is being carried out and the areas with the highest increase in identified reports are being fumigated, said Mauricio Sauri Vivas, Yucatan’s Secretary of Health.
He emphasized that the SSY carries out continuous entomological surveillance and the points where there is an increase in cases are identified. The municipalities with the most reported cases are Santa Elena with four cases, followed by Yobaín with one, Progreso with three, and Umán with eight cases.
According to the secretary, talks are being held with the mayors to reinforce the fumigation and labialization systems. “Mérida is one of the cities with the greatest increase in cases, so we will soon start with the program of desacralization and fumigation,” he said.
No alarm
This he stressed, does not mean alarm, respecting the times in which the programs are carried out. “The rainy season starts in June, so we will be carrying out the program in May, it will be accompanied by intense days,” he added.
The Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave) affirmed that Yucatan remains in second place nationally in the incidence of dengue infection, as well as cases per 100,000 inhabitants, for the eleventh consecutive week.
Likewise, the lethal pathology prevails in 23 towns, specifically Acanceh, Akil, Buctzotz, Chemax, Chocholá, Espita, Kanasín, Mérida, Opichén, Panabá, Peto, Progreso, Santa Elena, Tecoh, Tekax, Temozón, Ticul, Tinum, Tizimín, Umán, Valladolid, Yaxcabá and Yobaín.
According to the Epidemiological Panorama of Dengue, the greatest problem is registered in Quintana Roo, with 718 cases, 39.11 percent; followed by Yucatan and Veracruz, with 132 infected, 1.52 percent.
In this sense, he shared that the growth is due to the rains, accumulation of garbage, and larvae growth, so they are working even with the two neighboring states of the Peninsula. Finally, he invited citizens not to lower their guard, to clean their yards and not to accumulate junk where mosquitoes can be harbored.
