Merida’s Municipal Police seek to ensure families have a safe vacation

On Saturday, April 1st, the Merida Municipal Police (PMM) will deploy a security and traffic operation to protect the integrity of families during this Easter vacation.

There will also be breathalyzer operations set up at different points in the Historic Center to avoid traffic accidents due to alcohol consumption.

The PMM will maintain this public and road safety device from this Saturday, April 1st to Sunday, April 16th, in which 380 elements of the corporation will participate.

As part of the strategy, the director of the Municipal Police, Mario Arturo Romero Escalante, informed that the corporation will double the number of police officers assigned to patrol the foreign bus terminals.

Also, there will be agents at urban transportation stops, in the area of markets and public spaces such as Plaza Grande or Santa Lucia, where there are cultural activities.

Processions will be monitored

The operation also has a component focused on traffic, mainly due to the activities that will take place in religious temples from April 6 to 9, where pedestrian crossings and processions will be monitored.

For a better distribution of emergency and security services during these dates, Romero Escalante announced that there will be three operational bases located at Eulogio Rosado Park, at the TAME Terminal (69th Street between 68th and 70th) and CAME Terminal (68th Street between 69th and 71st).

He added that the security operation includes the surveillance of the terminals of Autobuses Noreste, Autoprogreso and the combis site in Progreso where there will also be the presence of the canine squad.

This work will be extended to the Lucas de Gálvez, San Benito and Bazar García Rejón markets, as well as the commercial area, banks, ATMs, plazas and jewelry centers and residential areas in order to prevent home robberies.
