Viva Aerobus announced the firm’s new operating base in the central area.
Last month was the best March in the history of Yucatan with respect to passenger movement at Merida Manuel Crescencio Rejon International Airport. According to official data, the state’s air hub had a movement of 317,697 people, which represented a 36 percent growth compared to the same month, but last year.
On the other hand, from January to March of this year 2023, the International Airport of the Yucatan capital registered 906,199 passengers, which represents a growth of 48.69 percent compared to last year.
Last December the governor of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila Dosal, presented a certificate to the 3 millionth passenger, Alberto Flores Torres, as the highest figure of 2019 was surpassed, when 2.8 million travelers were registered.
In addition to this, the state has increased its air connection by inaugurating two direct routes: Guanajuato-Mérida, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobus, as well as Mérida-Guatemala and Mérida-Flores, operated by TAG Airlines, with four and three flights a week, respectively, and competitive fares.
Vila Dosal and Viva Aerobus executives announced that the territory will have a new operational base or hub for the company at the Merida Airport, which will allow three aircraft to stay overnight; this will increase connectivity in the region and generate 600 direct and indirect jobs.
Yucatan is also connected through 11 domestic routes to cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Tijuana and Oaxaca; Toluca, Leon and Queretaro will be added later this year, as well as eight international routes to Toronto, Canada; Houston, Miami, Dallas and Oakland, United States; Havana, Cuba, and Guatemala City and Flores, Guatemala.
