The excellent infrastructure, quality of services, as well as the intense promotion carried out between the private sector and the government, has made Yucatan one of the top romance destinations in the world, assured Jorge Escalante Bolio, director of the agency Amigo Yucatan.
In this segment the average stay is much longer than the general overnight stay, which in the best seasons is two days: in romance and weddings it is between five to seven nights, and currently the favorite destination is Uxmal.
He recalled that luxury tourism in the State “is a dynamic phenomenon“, so the current flow of travelers is not the same as a few years ago, when the Entity has become the most sought after place for couples, who travel from different parts of the country or the world due to the romantic scenarios it has: “In every corner of the State it is easy to find the right places to ‘say yes’ and seal a love story“.
He affirmed that now the State has a lot to offer in natural, colonial, archeological sites and haciendas, culture, history, gastronomy that attract the attention of the new current of travelers, among which is the luxury niche, to whom “very good and varied infrastructure is offered because luxury is not always considered by people in the same way“.
The businessman, former president of the Tourism Business Council (Cetur), affirmed that within this luxury segment are weddings and romance, because Yucatan is attractive for “the look and needs of this type of visitors“.
He assured that tourism service providers have organized themselves to promote, together with the government, the destination for couples, thanks to the variety of hotels, boutique, beaches and haciendas, sites that are preferred for this market; there are excellent and professional wedding planners (wedding coordinators) and they endorse the quality service.
“People have realized (that) not only the place is being offered, but also professional services and more and more people prefer to come to get married in Yucatan, as a result of this promotion that is being done between the private initiative and the State Government”.
He explained that one of the advantages of wedding tourism is the price, because Yucatan, with all its beauty and infrastructure, is cheap compared to similar destinations in Mexico and the world.
