Beaches and other tourist destinations in Yucatan overflowed with tourists during the holiday weekend, three years after the arrival of Covid-19 in the state and the lifting of all health restrictions.
On the coast, ports such as Progreso, Chelem, Chicxulub, Telchac, and Sisal were completely full during Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as the heat and favorable weather pushed thousands of families to spend an afternoon by the sea.
In Progreso, the municipal police estimated that both malecons had about 30,000 people by midday, with an average of 45 to 50 vehicles entering the port per minute.
The main beach of the Malecon Tradicional was packed for both days. Families took advantage of their free time to bring tents, umbrellas, coolers, and other items to enjoy their outing. Those who were not prepared used the palapas or looked for shade among the palm trees and the fiscal pier.
In Progreso, another point that was totally full was the El Corchito Reserve, a spring located within the mangrove zone, which has become one of the most popular tourist stops for visitors.
Throughout the weekend, the presence of the Public Security Secretariat was necessary to maintain order on site, as well as constant communication with paramedics in case of dehydration or heat stroke, as visitors were of all ages.
On the west end, the port of Sisal also received thousands of visitors, whose arrival was evident on the narrow road that connects the city of Hunucmá with said Pueblo Mágico, as the line and the “turn of the wheel” began two kilometers before reaching the coast.
