Throughout more than 50 years, Titeradas, founded in 1972 by Yucatecan actor and playwright Wilberth Herrera, has brought thousands of smiles to many generations in Yucatan.
For almost 20 years, this puppet group was the protagonist of a television series, becoming so popular for its iconic characters such as Lela Oxkuctzcaba, Chereque, Totoyo, Don Mech, the Tiburon Chato, and many others.
There is a record of at least 400 episodes, of which only 75 can be seen today on the internet along with some fragments. Just a few years ago, the program began to be retransmitted by a well-known local TV station.
For five decades, the Pedrito Theater, located on 55th Street just a few meters from Santa Lucia Park, in the Historic Center of Merida, was the home of Titeradas, where they received the applause of children and adults who came to see their plays every Sunday.
In this theater, productions were presented that still live on in the memories of many Yucatecans, such as The Mexican Bonito Puppet Show, Lelanieves and the Seven Dwarfs, The Lela of the Galaxies, Episode I: The Threat of the Huay Chivo, and Xich Brother Vip.
