San Cristóbal De Las Casas, Chiapas., The members of the caravan El Sur Resiste, who for 10 days toured seven states in the region, demanded the “immediate cancellation of the train misnamed Maya, especially the construction of section 7, the installation of the military casino and the tourist development in the community of Xpujil, in Campeche”, since, despite the definitive suspension granted by a federal judge, the Ministry of National Defense continues its construction in contempt of the federal order.

In a statement released this Sunday night after the international meeting El Sur Resiste, they demanded that “in the Nicolás Bravo ejido the assembly of March 5, 2023, be revoked, in which the stop of the train, wrongly called Maya, was illegally approved in favor of the Azcárraga group, owner of Televisa, which will damage more than 100 Mayan ceremonial centers”.

They affirmed that “in these times of global geopolitical readjustment in which the great capitals of the Western and Asian blocs accelerate the process of this new stage of war of colonization, we witness its devastating effects on our territories, but we also feel with great strength the resistance of our peoples who have safeguarded our existence”.

In this global rearrangement, they added, “the Mexican Southeast and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec play a strategic role in the interests of world corporations to unite by land in only 200 kilometers the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean and facilitate the transportation of merchandise, hydrocarbons, and other subsoil resources”.

They insisted that the Interoceanic Corridor has been a place of transit since ancestral times of the commercial routes of the peoples; since colonial times governments have tried to appropriate it without succeeding, due to the resistance of the peoples of the region.

“It is no different, since it contemplates the modernization of the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz, the construction of a highway, and the modernization of the railroad for cargo trains, which will not only connect the two ports, but with the train they call Maya in the Yucatan peninsula”, they assured.

They pointed out that “the Inter-Oceanic Corridor, the Maya Train, and the Morelos Integral Project in the center of the country are part of an interconnection and energy supply network for the corporations that will operate in the south of the country and Central America, most of them of private and foreign capital”.

The meeting took place in the Centro Indígena de Capacitación Integral/Caracol Zapatista Jacinto Canek, with 900 people from 38 indigenous peoples from 30 countries.
