MÉRIDA, Yucatan, May 11, 2023.- Romance tourism is positioned as one of the most important sectors of the tourism industry in Yucatan, particularly destination weddings, since of the more than 10,000 marriages that took place in Yucatan in 2022, 25 percent were of this type.

This was reported during the presentation of the Yucatán Weddings Book, a publication that, in this first edition, presents a real and current panorama of romance tourism in the state, its behavior, economic relevance, as well as actors and scenarios that participate in this industry.

Luis Ángel Canul, founding director of YucatánLove, the company that carried out the research and translated it into a document, explained that the intention is to have an overview of the destination wedding market and its importance in the tourism sector, which could even be more important than convention tourism.

“In the last six years our company alone attended to 165 couples from 25 different countries and received at least 18,000 tourists, generating around 7.9 million dollars; last year approximately 2,695 couples from all over the world came to Yucatan to get married”.

The Yucatan Weddings Book offers real and reliable information that can serve as a basis for decision makers or government agencies to decide to invest in this sector, as they can prove that the revenue generated is important.

It also offers important information that can be used as a reference for wedding planners who wish to start in the sector, even for those who already work in it.

Among the details pointed out by the publication is that the month with the highest number of weddings celebrated is February with 21.6 percent, followed by April with 15.17 percent and in third place November with 13.1 percent.

It also highlights that last year the average cost per person for a wedding was around $458.7 dollars, with an average number of guests of 106 people; however, they point out that more than 70 percent of couples increase their initial budget by at least 50 percent.
