Specialists pointed out that the lack of maintenance and new power lines will further increase blackouts on the Peninsula
Specialists pointed out that the lack of public investment by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to modernize the transmission networks doubled blackouts in the Yucatan Peninsula in the last seven years.
The expert and consultant on energy issues Santiago Villagómez Martínez warned that the lack of maintenance and new power lines will further increase blackouts in Yucatán and the rest of the Peninsula.
He pointed out that the lack of public investment and openness to business models in energy generation has slowed down the arrival of new private investments in projects in this area throughout the country, coupled with the lack of legal certainty in the matter.
Finance specialists coincided in pointing out the economic decline and the loss of opportunities in the country after five years of federal administration, so the fundamental issues at this time are political, both the federal elections in the United States and the presidential replacement in Mexico, which should bring changes to the statism policies of the current Government.
Marcial Díaz, also a consultant on energy issues, pointed out that, as the federal administration is about to conclude, economic uncertainty is growing, in addition to the lack of guarantees and the conditions to increase investments in the country.
Santiago Villagómez stressed that the only investments planned in 2024 by the CFE for the Peninsula are: two underground cables for Cozumel and Holbox (Quintana Roo), but this does not benefit the energy supply for the three States of the region at all.
“There is a great desire to invest in Mexico, but there are no guarantees to respect these investments and legal security is weaker every day, so the country is losing opportunities with these bad public policies,” said the specialist.
