More chaos caused by the works of the Mérida City Council: due to the construction works of the Tourist-Gastronomic Corridor, the street 56 on the corner of 47 in Downtown Mérida will remain closed for three days, announced the Director of Public Works of the Municipality, David Loría Magdub. He stated that the date has not been confirmed yet, but it could potentially start today, Thursday, June 15.

He mentioned that the decision will be made in consultation with the local entrepreneurs, but he assured that it must be done this weekend as it needs to be notified to the Municipal Police.

He indicated that due to this, the works need to be supervised by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) due to archaeological findings. “In fact, we have already started the restoration of the tram sections that have been discovered.”

He informed that the Mérida City Council has already met with the General Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto Hernández, to obtain the official permission to install the porphyry-type paving blocks since the Corridor will connect with Paseo de Montejo and the Gran Parque de La Plancha.

Regarding the State Government, they will also use the same type of paving blocks, but in the corresponding area, which is up to the main square, clarified Loría Magdub.

Lastly, he explained that the corridor, which will have a universally accessible road with ramps instead of curbs, is currently 50% complete and is expected to be ready by the first week of August.
