Tekit will be known as the Guayabera Capital during its participation in the Second Maya Cultural Encounter, which will take place on July 15th in North Las Vegas County, Nevada, United States.

In the event, where seven other municipalities from the region are also participating, Tekit is expected to showcase “the cultural and artisanal value of these textile pieces known as guayaberas, which are traditionally made” in the municipality, said Alan Padrón Alvarado, regional coordinator of the guayabera in Tekit.

Padrón Alvarado explained that the exhibition is part of the twinning activities with North Las Vegas. Additionally, artisans from other Yucatecan municipalities such as Tzucacab, Tekax, Maní, Teabo, Santa Elena, and Muna are participating in the Guayabera Expo.

In addition to their finest guayaberas, the artisans will present a wide variety of typical local products from each municipality, with the aim of showcasing and commercializing these pieces in “the city of sin.”

It is also important to mention that through the twinning between the Southern states of the Yucatan Peninsula and North Las Vegas, local and national pride is promoted.
