For the National Chamber of the Restaurant Industry and Seasoned Foods (Canirac), summer is a good scenario for increasing the profits of restaurant owners in Yucatán, where an increase of up to 50 percent is expected compared to last year during the same season.
The president of Canirac, Claudia González Góngora, stated that the restaurant sector expects a strong increase in sales during the summer season, surpassing even the expectations of the rest of the country.
Nationally, the restaurant sector anticipates a 20 percent increase in restaurant sales during this 2023 season, but in Yucatán, a growth range between 35 and 50 percent is expected.
She mentioned that these expectations are based on Yucatán’s positioning as a culinary tourism destination, so the arrival of international tourists who wish to enjoy the renowned local cuisine in various areas of the state is expected.
González Góngora noted that, along with other restaurant owners, they noticed a slight economic slowdown after the second half of May, which they attribute to macroeconomic factors affecting both the state and the rest of the country.
