A part of the people from Chiapas who were seized in the operations carried out in various properties in Mérida have already been returned to their state of origin.
As we previously posted on The Yucatan Times, minors from the state of Chiapas were seized in a police operation living in terrible conditions inside a downtown property, and according to information from the state authorities, in the actions carried out by the State Investigation Police (PEI), the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Civil Protection, Prodennay and other state authorities, 20 people were seized, including women and children, who were sent to a temporary shelter, under the supervision of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Yucatán (Codhey).
It was reported that most of the people rescued in the operations were returned to Chiapas, while a group of minors was sent to Caimede, because they have relatives in the state.
Regarding the matter, the Codhey indicated that it is necessary to establish inter-institutional coordination for the attention of the alleged trafficking in persons that has been generated in the entity, through the arrival of people from other states, such as Chiapas, who work in the streets of the city of Merida.
The president of the autonomous body, Miguel Sabido Santana, pointed out that it is imperative that there be coordinated work to address this situation that generated controversy in society, after the death of Iker, a child from Chiapas who was run over while begging on public roads.
“We have analyzed what would be the mechanisms to be able to address this problem and we consider that, what is indicated and that we will be doing in the following days, summon the authorities, summon civil society to hold working groups to generate a strategy integral that can address the problem in the best possible way,” Sabido Santana concluded.
