22nd edition of the Tunich Craft Fair inaugurated by Mayor Renán Barrera

Committed to the sustainable and supportive economic development of all its inhabitants, Mayor Renán Barrera Concha, accompanied by his wife, Diana Castillo Laviada, inaugurated the 22nd edition of the Tunich Craft Fair, whose objective is to be a national and international showcase of the products made by the hands of men and women who embody their identity and their roots in each of these pieces.

“This craft fair that has been consolidated in the last 10 years as the most important in the southeast has created the necessary conditions so that everyone has the opportunity to progress and improve the economy of their families,” he said.

In addition, he added, it has made Dzityá a point of reference for artisan work where Yucatecan hands transform wood and stone, and where endemic products of our region are promoted.

Barrera Concha reported that this emblematic event of Mérida, brings together in its 2023 edition, 150 local artisans, from Michoacán, Guanajuato and Veracruz, who from July 28 to August 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. hours, they will offer filigree products for sale, textiles, ceramics, glass, stone, wood, handicrafts in general, thus promoting not only the sale and consumption of local products and the activation of the local economy, but also making culture and traditions more visible.

“It is a living culture event in which techniques with quality products are promoted, as well as a cultural and artistic offer for everyone, especially for local, national and foreign visitors,” he stressed.

As an example of the consolidation of the Tunich Craft Fair, he reported that in its 2022 edition it brought together some one hundred thousand people, who in the 10 days of the fair left an economic spill of 5 million, 813 thousand, 855 pesos, a figure that I represent a record, registering a 53% increase in sales of the pre-pandemic edition in 2019.

Regarding the 22nd edition of the Tunich 2023 Craft Fair, he pointed out that the attendees will find a wide range of products made of stone, wood, filigree, fine jewelry, textiles and a wide gastronomic offer, headed by inhabitants of the Dzityá police station.

“For the fun of adults and children, the fair will have 40 shows to be held throughout the 10 days, in which they will be able to enjoy Los Méndez de Pilón, Mérida Big Band, Los Juglares, Banda Ysrael, two dance marathons by MVS Radio, official sponsor; Tila María Sesto and Ruperta Pérez Sosa, among others”, he indicated.

He also mentioned that the Mérida City Council will offer free transportation to the fair, which will depart from the Main Square of Mérida, from Monday to Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Sundays, from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. hours.

He said that for those who travel in vehicles, there will be parking at a cost of 25 pesos, managed by the inhabitants of the police station.

On the other hand, the Municipal President informed that, to offer greater security to the visitors of the fair, the Municipal Police will support the roads in coordination with elements of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP). Likewise, the Ministry of Health will have an ambulance and two paramedics during the 10 days of the event.

At the end of the formal act, the Mayor toured the various stands, in which he spoke with the participating artisans who took the opportunity to take souvenir photos with the Municipal President.
