Mysterious double death in Mexico City’s subway under investigation

A man and a woman died last Wednesday afternoon after being run over by a convoy at the Hidalgo station on Line 2 of the Metro (Mexico City’s subway). The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) is investigating the causes of the incident.

According to early versions, the woman was waiting for the train when she was thrown by the man who also threw herself onto the tracks. Another hypothesis is that she threw herself onto the tracks and the other person tried to help her and fell as well.

The first investigations indicate that the couple apparently threw themselves into the path of the convoy.

When the convoy arrived at the station, in the direction of Taxqueña, both threw themselves and the train dragged them. The two lost their lives instantly; Metro personnel momentarily stopped the service to carry out the rescue of the bodies, however, the service was resumed hours later.

Metro authorities notified the Attorney General’s Office, so investigating agents and experts carried out the procedures to establish whether it was a homicide and suicide or a rescue attempt.

According to witnesses interviewed by police officers, the young woman, identified as Celia Adriano Rodríguez, 19, and her boyfriend Luis Sánchez Chávez, 19, were waiting for the train to arrive when a third individual threw her from behind onto the tracks and he also fell.

The FGJ tries to establish the facts, and also determine, if this line of investigation is confirmed, that the person likely responsible for throwing the young woman into the path of the train decided to commit suicide or fell on impulse.
