Mérida’s mayor Renán Barrera Concha announced that there is a possibility that Netflix establish a production hub in the Yucatan Peninsula, which could mean more job opportunities for people in this city.

Barrera Concha stated that security and legal certainty will attract investments from 12 companies in 2023, including Netflix and a garbage compactor.

“We estimate that between 20 and 30 companies have arrived in Mérida in recent years. And this year we will close between 10 and 12 new manufacturing, trade and services companies of international stature, including Netflix,” he told to Forbes Mexico.

“Netflix executives, with whom I was able to talk in California, are very interested in making a production center or hub here for the Yucatan Peninsula and we are in talks with them,” he added.

In February of this year, as part of the initiative called “Convoy for the internationalization of Mexican municipalities”, California Corridor, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the mayor traveled to the United States to promote Yucatan.

On that occasion, Barrera Concha met with executives from the main digital content and film platforms to expose the cultural, architectural and archaeological wealth of Mérida and the State.

Within the agenda of activities scheduled in Los Angeles, the mayor participated in a work table at the Netflix facilities to promote possible investment routes, attractive places such as filming locations and, consequently, the areas where the service infrastructure, tourism and job creation.

In recent months Mérida hosted several recordings of the Bandidos series, which are already available on the streaming platform.
