President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced this Friday that, during the ceremony of his fifth annual report, he will board the Tren Maya as his first supervision trip. Although it will not run at its maximum speed.

López Obrador said that the ceremony of his report will be held in Campeche, and it will not be massive, nor will it contemplate holding a rally. In his morning press conference at the National Palace, he reiterated that after the ceremony he will board the Mayan Train for the first supervision trip, in which, he explained, the railway will go slowly.

“The train still can’t develop its full speed, 160 kilometers per hour, so we’re going to go like 60, 70, 80. Imagine it derailing, (it would be) world news”, he joked.

“No, slowly, slowly, little by little. It is a great work, extraordinary. Slowly, because we are in a hurry,” he added.

He added that in his report “there will be municipal presidents of Campeche, state authorities, some people from Campeche, governors of the southeast, above all, and the members of the cabinet will be there, but not many people, it will not be a rally.”

López Obrador said that he feels proud because at the end of his government he will be the president who will leave the most kilometers of railway running in the country in recent times.

“I am proud that I am going to be the president of the last years who leaves more kilometers of railways operating. The entire southeast, from the Isthmus to the Peninsula, 2,500 kilometers,” he stressed.
