In an effort to preserve and promote the artisan traditions of the state of Yucatan, the coworking of the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs (IYEM) became the venue for the launch that marked the beginning of the “1st State Popular Art Contest.”
The General Director of the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs Antonio González Blanco indicated that, through these contests, the State Government can detect the talent of artisans and give them the necessary impulse to be recognized, in addition to promoting them for better commercialization.
“If we can detect talent, we can support it, and this allows us to continue conserving and promoting our culture, as well as the economy of the interior of the state,” said the head of the IYEM.
“Thanks to the teamwork of all Yucatecans, in Yucatan we are living a historic moment. But the data that makes us feel most proud are those related to poverty and inequality, which together we reduced like never before in history, and thanks to which our state is growing from the bottom up today and registers a historic reduction in inequality, 3 times greater reduction than at the national level, reduction of poverty, 1.4 times greater reduction than at the national level.
He added that in addition to this, a historic increase in family income was achieved, which grew 17%, which is 54% more than the national increase (11%) and as a result of the teamwork of the Yucatecans, together with the Governor Vila’s work style focused on making Yucatan an increasingly fair state for all, in Yucatan we achieved a historic feat by making our state grow from the bottom up, reducing income inequality in families, reducing poverty 3 times more than in the rest of the country. Thus, we reached a historic level in quarterly household income, which went from 53,329 pesos in 2020 to 62,271 in 2022 according to INEGI.
He stressed that the Mayan heritage lives in the municipalities of the state and is reflected in their handicrafts such as hammocks, shoes, guayaberas, or hipiles; and it is a priority for the governor that our culture be preserved, that identity be promoted and allow artisan people to improve their quality of life.
