The Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) expropriated 215,530 square meters of 77 privately owned properties for the construction of public infrastructure works related to the Maya Train Project.
The agency published on Friday, September 8th, in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) a declaration of public utility for these properties that are located in the municipalities of Escárcega, Champotón, and Campeche.
The document, signed by Secretary Román Meyer, recalls that the Expropriation Law establishes as a cause of public utility the construction of public infrastructure works and the provision of public services that require real estate and its improvements.
According to the Declaration, the government will expropriate three plots in Escárcega, five in Champotón, and 69 in the capital of the state of Campeche.
To carry out this expropriation, the authority must personally notify the owners of the assets and rights, who will have a period of 15 business days from the notification or the second publication of the declaration in the DOF to express themselves before the Unit of Legal Affairs of Sedatu what suits their right and interest.
“Upon agreement with the owners of the properties involved in this Declaration, proceed to their immediate occupation,” the document states.
The federal government has resorted to expropriations of land and real estate in Campeche, Yucatán, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo to carry out infrastructure works for the Maya Train, a project that will be inaugurated in December as promised by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
