During the joint security operation carried out by public safety agencies in commemoration of Mexico’s 213th Independence anniversary, the Municipal Police Directorate of Merida reported a peaceful outcome.

This police force appreciates the civic behavior of the population, where social peace and harmony prevailed.

An operation was deployed to ensure the well-being and safety of attendees at the September 15th Independence Day celebration and the civic-military parade that took place on the morning of September 16th.

The municipal operation included a special plan for September 15th and 16th to keep the downtown streets flowing smoothly, monitoring the safe crossing of pedestrians, and assisting drivers in finding alternative routes across the city.

Likewise, in coordination with the Secretary of Public Safety, security checkpoints were set up around the Plaza Grande, including during the concert by the musical group Banda Adictiva. This helped prevent possible criminal acts during the Independence Day ceremony and the civic-military parade on Thursday and Friday.

During Saturday’s parade, 240 agents from the Merida Municipal Police and members of the Guardaparques program participated, while other police personnel from this force focused on street closures and routine surveillance within the city’s downtown area.

In the parade led by the Director of the Municipal Police, Commissioner Mario Arturo Romero Escalante, and operational commanders of the force, various units that make up this police entity participated, including the Military Band, Escort, Command Group, D.A.R.E. agents, paramedics, K-9 Unit, Citizen Security, Traffic Police, Animal Protection Unit, Patrol Cars, and Riot Vans. In Guardaparques, the elements were led by their Technical Secretary, Benjamín Millet Molina.

It is worth noting that during the patriotic events, the Merida Municipal Police maintained close surveillance in the Historic Center of the city, ensuring the safety of both those attending the festivities and those going about their daily activities.

At the end of the commemorative parade, Mayor Renán Barrera Concha visited the facilities of the Merida Municipal Police to congratulate the police officers for their outstanding participation during the September 15th and 16th activities.

Finally, the Merida Municipal Police commends the citizens who, in a civic manner, attended and enjoyed these activities, allowing them to take place without any issues.
