The Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) in its Yucatán delegation has warned that there is now a noticeable gap between the need for affordable housing and the impossibility of constructing such homes, which fulfill a significant social need for the population seeking to acquire property. Therefore, actions need to be taken in this regard.
The president of this business organization, Raúl Asís Monforte González, explained that the situation does not depend on a single sector, emphasizing that it’s not because builders are seeking higher profits, which are already low.
Addressing the issue after the presentation of the “My Ideal City” art contest organized by the CMIC’s women’s committee, the business leader stated that, in light of this situation, builders have requested authorities such as the Mérida City Council, the State Government, Infonavit, and financial institutions to engage in dialogues. These discussions aim to determine the housing requirements and identify the factors that drive up housing costs. By examining unnecessary elements that do not add value, they hope to eliminate them and explore innovative ideas to make housing more affordable for workers with a certain income level.
