As part of the efforts led by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal’s administration to preserve and strengthen social peace and the well-being of Yucatecan families, María Fritz Sierra, the head of the General Secretariat of Government (SGG), received Captain Eisa Bin Khamis Al-Khelaifi, an expert in security for large events like the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Accompanied by Carlos Pérez Cuevas, the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Worldwide Vice President, and Senator Minerva Hernández Ramos, Al-Khelaifi mentioned that it was his first visit to Yucatán and expressed that he was enjoying a “pleasant and great experience.” He appreciated the opportunity to be in a state with rich cuisine, culture, history, architectural beauty, and security.

In this context, he shared that he had walked along Paseo de Montejo and was very impressed with the prevailing security. “It’s surprising, and I pay much more attention to details because of my job,” noted the Arab executive, emphasizing that many countries in the world, including Latin America, are facing challenging security situations, and Mexico is no exception. However, Yucatán is different, enjoying a climate of social peace and tranquility.

“Being in Yucatán is surprising,” he underlined. After researching and learning about the state, he had now had the opportunity to see firsthand the conditions that have earned Yucatán recognition not only in Mexico but also internationally for its high levels of security.

“Yucatán is regarded as the safest state in Mexico, and Mérida is the most peaceful city after Quebec, Canada, in the Americas,” he said after visiting the History Hall of the Government Palace, where he learned about the state’s history through the murals by master Fernando Castro Pacheco.

During his initial tour of the streets and landmarks of Mérida’s Historic Center, the distinguished visitor noted details about the public security system, which, he acknowledged, is optimal and requires no corrections.

Accompanied by the Chief of State Police Coordination of the Yucatán State Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Commissioner Alejandro Ríos Covián Silveira, and the Undersecretary of Prevention and Social Reintegration of the SGG, Fernando José Rosel Flores, Fritz Sierra, on behalf of Governor Mauricio Vila, welcomed Al-Khelaifi at the Government Palace. Al-Khelaifi arrived in the capital of Yucatán to hold meetings with state authorities on security-related topics and exchange ideas and experiences.

During the welcome of the Arab executive, who specializes in designing protection, prevention, and emergency response systems for mass events in Qatar, the SGG head thanked him for his visit to Yucatán and his willingness to contribute his knowledge to strengthen security and tranquility in the state.

In the afternoon, he met with high-ranking officials and personnel from the SSP at the Control, Command, Communications, Computing, Coordination, and Intelligence Center (C5i) to gain detailed insights into the crime surveillance and prevention systems in the state.

Present at the meeting, held in the SGG boardroom, were the Directors of International Affairs and Social Communication of the State Government, Marielle Ávila Storey and Eduardo Cabrera Ruiz, respectively, and the South Sector Director of the SSP, Commander Jesús Alberto Ku Chel.
