On Thursday, September 28th, the General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved the Work Plan and the schedule of activities of the Temporary Debates Commission, which plans to organize three presidential debates, considering one more than those contemplated by the law.
The president of the Temporary Debates Commission, Carla Humphrey Jordan, explained that the purpose of the three debates is to guarantee that citizens have the most and best information about the candidates for next year’s elections.
“The objective will be to guarantee that Mexicans have the greatest and best information possible about the candidates to exercise their vote,” said the counselor.

He added that they will look for more agile formats, impartial moderations and greater dissemination.

Humphrey Jordan said that the debates are a source of information that helps inform the electorate’s decision to elect those who will occupy office in the elections. Furthermore, he described them as “affirmations of freedom” that feed democracy.

The INE advisors agreed that the Temporary Debates Commission would monitor the correct use of resources and accountability.
The Work Plan that was approved establishes that the three debates will be in March, April and May 2024, without a date yet being specified.
It also has the purpose of showing the activities that will be carried out in order to organize the presidential debates.
