To take care of women’s health in Merida, the City Council is joining the efforts of society and the government to prevent breast cancer, with a program of free mastographies and comprehensive medical services in neighborhoods and police stations.
Mayor Renán Barrera said that through the Directorate of Health and Social Welfare, he offers integral health services for women, including mastography studies, gynecological consultation and ultrasound, dentistry, psychology and nutrition, to prevent illnesses without affecting the family economy.

“Breast cancer continues to be the number one cause of death in women, for this reason, we work together to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and continue guaranteeing the wellbeing of all Meridanos,” she said.
Free mammograms during October at the Plaza Grande
Barrera Concha pointed out that the mobile mastography unit will be available from October 3 to 31 at the Plaza Grande to attend women who request it, free of charge.
She also said that the mastography service is also offered at the Centro de Atención Médica a la Mujer (CAMM) located at calle 88-A número 311-D, entre 141 y 143, colonia Emiliano Zapata Sur II, where from September 2021 to date, more than 749 mastography studies have been performed.
The municipal president reported that from October 2022 to date, 1,846 gynecological consultations have been provided; 2,025 dental consultations; 1,890 psychological consultations; 198 nutrition consultations; and 283 ultrasounds were performed, benefiting 6,989 people.

In his turn, the Director of Health and Social Welfare, Ildefonso Machado Domínguez, indicated that among the requirements to receive timely attention, either in the mobile unit or in the CAMM, are: to come freshly bathed with shaved armpits and not to have breast implants.

Likewise, avoid the use of talcum powder, perfume or deodorant and preferably wear a blouse, skirt or pants.
He pointed out that in the case of people who come to the CAMM, they should make an appointment, which can be made by calling 9994296653.
In addition to the above, the official reminded that the Municipality also has mobile medical units, which will be offering free general and dental consultations in the 47 police stations of the Municipality.
He emphasized that in the 25 fixed medical modules that operate in the neighborhoods and police stations of Merida, dental, psychological, gynecological, nutritional and rehabilitation assistance is also provided at low cost.
