Rainfall surprised the people of Yucatán on the weekend, as significant rains with lightning occurred in some areas, causing power outages and flooded streets in downtown, northwest, and the west of Mérida.

Today, hot weather is expected with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies in the afternoon, with the potential for rain in the afternoon and evening, along with east and northeast winds throughout the state, according to meteorologist Juan Vázquez Montalvo of the Institutional Committee for the Attention of Extreme Meteorological Phenomena (Ciafeme) at Uady.

“The expected rains will be moderate in some areas and heavy in others. It wouldn’t be unusual for a very heavy rain to occur in a particular area throughout the state, including the coast, where we had heavy showers on Saturday and Sunday, two consecutive days, but it shouldn’t rain today,” he explained.

The maximum temperatures will range from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius in the city of Mérida and the rest of the state. On the coast, temperatures will range from 31 to 33 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will remain between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius throughout the state, except on the coast, where it will be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius at dawn. It will be a week of afternoon rains.

Vázquez Montalvo commented that the heat index remains high, with a lot of humidity, reaching 47 degrees Celsius. High values will also be present in solar radiation, with 1,200 watts per square meter. There will be a UV index of 11 units, so precautions should be taken.
