Due to the likelihood of heavy rains in municipalities in the southwest and northwest of Yucatán on the 8th and 9th of this month because of the interaction between a cold front and tropical maritime air, the State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy) of Yucatán called on the population to stay vigilant and take precautions.
The State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy), led by Enrique Alcocer Basto, warned of the presence of a frontal system with stationary characteristics north of the state of Yucatán, about 150 km from the coastal area, over the Gulf of Mexico.
It is expected that the southern part of the frontal system will interact with a low-pressure trough and the influx of tropical maritime air from the Caribbean Sea, which will increase the potential for rain in much of the state’s territory during September 8th and 9th, 2023.
The agency recommended that residents of the northwest and southwest of the state maintain precautionary measures against rain. Thus, this announcement was made on the instructions of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal as a call for prevention.
The weather conditions include east and northeast winds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour with waves on the coastal area ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 meters. It is advisable to seek shelter in safe places to avoid accidents until the frontal system dissipates.
There is no expected drop in temperatures, which will remain in the range of 33 to 35°C for maximums and 20 to 22°C for minimums.
Based on satellite sampling analysis of Cold Front No. 4 located in the Gulf of Mexico, the State Monitoring and Warning System (SEMA) of Procivy reports that on Sunday, October 8th, moderate to heavy afternoon rain is expected in municipalities in the southwest of the state and light to moderate rain in the northwest, northeast, and southeast areas.
These humid conditions will prevail in towns like Ticul, Akil, Chapab, Chumayel, Dzan, Mama, Maní, Mayapán, Muna, Oxkutzcab, Sacalum, Santa Elena, Teabo, Tekax, Tekit, Tixméhuac, and Tzucacab, while in the rest of the state, the rain will be light to moderate in intensity.
On Monday, October 9th, evening rain conditions will persist, with heavy to very heavy rain in northwest municipalities and light to moderate rain in the southwest, northeast, and southeast areas.
These rain conditions will affect northwest municipalities such as Maxcanú, Celestún, Chocholá, Halachó, Hunucmá, Kinchil, Kopomá, Opichén, Samahil, Tetiz, Mérida, Abalá, Acanceh, Baca, Conkal, Chicxulub Pueblo, Ixil, Kanasín, Mocochá, Progreso, Seyé, Tahmek, Tecoh, Timucuy, Tixkokob, Tixpéhual, Ucú, Umán, and Yaxkukul.
