Two Mexicans could be hostages of Hamas, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), after the attacks that broke out in Israel on October 7. The Mexican government is in contact with the Israeli authorities.
“Our @EmbaMexIsr has informed us that a Mexican couple has been allegedly taken hostage by the Hamas group, in Gaza, this Saturday, October 7th. We are in contact with authorities in Israel and family members to provide follow-up, support, and attention,” reported the head of the agency, Alicia Bárcenas, in her X account.
This Saturday, the Mexican government condemned “the attacks suffered by the people of Israel” by the Islamist group Hamas from Gaza, and demanded “the cessation of unnecessary violence,” following the clashes recorded.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the attacks suffered by the people of Israel with the regrettable loss of human lives,” indicated the Mexican agency.
In the same way, he added, “calls for an end to this inappropriate violence, to avoid an escalation that causes greater damage and suffering to the civilian population.”
The Mexican government considered it “indispensable” to resume the processes of “direct and good faith” negotiations between both nations, within the framework of the two-state solution, recognizing the right of Israel and Palestine to coexist in peace, within secure borders.
