President López Obrador informed in a video that there are still efforts to be made and some sections of the Interoceanic Train still need to be fine-tuned.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador informed that the Interoceanic Train will be inaugurated on December 22.

Through social networks, the Mexican president shared a video aboard the train, after carrying out a supervision tour

“On December 22 the Isthmus Train will be inaugurated. We still need to release efforts and fine-tune some stretches of track, but we have already made, from ocean to ocean, 6 hours and 20 minutes from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca,” said Tabasco’s President in the recording.

“The track is already better, look at the train, it is quite comfortable. What I said a few days ago: if you compare a car, passenger bus or airplane with the train, you have the feeling that the train is more relaxing, you feel very comfortable, there is no stress,” he said.

López Obrador announced that such means of transportation will not exceed 80 kilometers per hour.

“We are going to travel seven hours from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz because this train will not move at more than 80 kilometers per hour, we are going to take less time. We are going to compete with the bus that leaves from Salina Cruz to Coatzacoalcos and from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz, we are going to make the same time or a little less”, he indicated.

The Mexican Government has detailed that the Interoceanic Train will boost Mexico’s economic and commercial development by linking the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, which means connecting the Asian market with the East Coast of the United States through this new access route.

This strategic project, under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Navy, develops an integral logistics platform interconnected by more than 1,200 kilometers of railroads, operated by the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railroad,
