On Tuesday, October 24, the long awaited Festival de las Ánimas finally started in Mérida, beginning with a grand opening, a photo exhibit and a guided tour of the General Cemetery.
The inauguration took place on Tuesday at 8:00 pm at the Centro Cultural Olimpo in Mérida. The exhibition “U K’iinil Finados” (The Day of the Dead) was open to the public.
Also, on Tuesday, October 24, at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., there was a series of guided tours of the General Cemetery, where visitors could learn about the history of the deceased, the different anecdotes and legends told about the Merida cemetery (groups of 50 people per time).
The activities continued throughout the week until Thursday, November 2, when the Monumental Altar of Hanal Pixán will be installed in Mérida’s Plaza Grande.
Other activities
Among the most important activities are the guided visits to the General Cemetery of Mérida, which will take place on Tuesday, October 24, Thursday, October 26, Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29. Also, on Monday, October 30, and Tuesday, October 31 at 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Also, there will be a Rodada de las Ánimas, this Wednesday, October 25 at the Plaza Grande in Mérida, at 8:00 pm.
The famous Paseo de las Ánimas will take place this Friday, October 27, from the Merida General Cemetery, La Ermita and San Juan at 6:00 pm.
There will also be a Parade and Night of Catrinas this Saturday, October 28, on Paseo de Montejo in Mérida at 8:00 pm.
Not to be missed are activities such as the Biciruta de Ánimas this Sunday, October 29 on Paseo de Montejo, Plaza Grande and La Ermita from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The Mucbipollo Fair will also be held this Sunday, October 29 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm in the Magic Neighborhood of San Sebastián.
On Monday, October 30, the Vaquería de las Ánimas will take place in Mérida’s Plaza Grande at 9:00 pm.
