Yucatán presents a decrease in Acute Alcohol Intoxications (IAA), with a decrease of 39.5 percent compared to 2022, going from 314 cases to 191 so far this year; However, there are many more cases of women and minors, and an increase is expected at the end of 2023 due to the Christmas season, parties, Posadas and office meetings.

The National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave) of the Federal Ministry of Health indicated that so far this year, 191 cases of Acute Alcohol Intoxication have been registered, of which 143 have been men and 48 women, which shows a decrease of 39.5 percent compared to the same period last year

For its part, the Improving Lives group of Alcoholics Anonymous commented that in recent years more and more women and minors have registered requesting help to quit drinking.

“Currently, we have a registry of approximately 40 people, 30 percent are women or young minors. 10 years ago these sectors only occupied a maximum of 10 or 15 percent of the groups, the incidence in this sector has increased”, commented the president.

Likewise, he assured that although alcohol consumption currently remains low, it increases around 50 to 60 percent in the December season due to the holidays around celebrations, such as posadas and meetings, among others, including Christmas and New Year.

“There are seasons in which consumption increases and December is one of them, because people want to celebrate, unfortunately in almost all parties there is alcohol and many poisonings occur,” he concluded.
