The National Center of Mexican Music presented this Friday the first edition of the Great Festival of the Music Palace, which will take place from December 7 to 17. This monumental project, promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila, pays an emotional tribute to Maestro Armando Manzanero, the most universal Yucatecan citizen.

Before representatives of the media, the State Secretary of Culture and the Arts of Yucatán, Loreto Villanueva Trujillo, highlighted the commitment of the state government to the creation and promotion of projects for the flourishing of art and culture in the region.

For his part, the General Director of the Palace of Music, Maleck Abdala Hadad, explained that the program of the first edition of the festival has been titled “Remembering Armando Manzanero”, since it will honor the unforgettable musician with a program that includes more than 23 captivating activities, from moving concerts to an academic colloquium, master classes, conferences, presentations, educational recitals, and more.

The official added that, within the framework of this festival, the first prize of the 2023 Palace of Music will be awarded, which will be awarded to Maestro Manzanero, posthumously, in recognition of his lasting impact on music and culture. This award is a creation of the Yucatecan sculptor Rosa María Espínola, a design by José Góngora.

“The festival not only celebrates the rich musical heritage of Yucatán and pays tribute to an enduring icon, but also positions the National Center of Mexican Music as a national and international benchmark for traditional and popular Mexican music,” said Abdala Hadad.

Among the outstanding Mexican artists who will participate in this unprecedented tribute are Tania Libertad, Eugenia León, Alejandro Lerner, Juan Pablo Manzanero, Guadalupe Pineda, Joaquina Mertz, Miguel Luna, Miriam Solís, Elizabeth Meza, among others.

This event will also feature the participation of prominent researchers and scholars of Manzanero’s work, from various national and international institutions, such as the College and Faculty of Arts of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco, the Autonomous University of Mexico City, Claremont McKenna College in Los Angeles, and the National Center for Musical Research, Documentation and Information of INBAL, among other renowned institutions.
