A tourist from Mexico City was attacked by a crocodile in Sisal, Yucatán while carrying out ecotourism activities.

This unusual attack occurred on Monday, November 20th, when the 51-year-old man, identified as Joel “N”, was in the Sisal swamp carrying out ecotourism activities accompanied by a group of people.

Without listening to the tourist guide’s warnings, the man jumped into the water in a place that is the natural habitat of a large number of crocodiles.

At one point, one, of the reptiles suddenly appeared, approached the man, and attacked him biting his leg.

As best they could, the tourist’s companions chased away the animal and managed to get him out of the water, take him to a safe place, and call 911 for medical help.

Paramedics from the Hunucmá Municipal Police arrived at the site and provided first aid, but due to the injuries the man suffered, he had to be taken to a hospital in Mérida for more specialized care.

Local authorities stated that the tourists were responsible for the incident as they did not follow the tourist guide’s indications.
