Adrián Alcalá Méndez replaces Blanca Lilia Ibarra Cadena as president of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Data Protection (Inai)
After four rounds of voting and the casting vote of the then head of the institute, Blanca Lilia Ibarra Cadena , commissioner Adrián Alcalá Méndez was elected president of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Data Protection (Inai).
At the beginning of the extraordinary session for the election of the president of Inai this Sunday, Dcember 10th, commissioner Norma Julieta del Río announced her decline to participate in the shortlist for the ownership of the organization; arguing that she “could not vote for a person without ethical and moral solvency.”
In that same intervention, the commissioner decided to make public her vote for Commissioner Josefina Román, who was also competing for the presidency of the institute. In the four rounds of voting for three-year ownership of the agency, the results were a tie, between Adrián Alcalá and Josefina Román.
For this reason, the now former president of the institution, Blanca Lilia Ibarra , made use of the presidential casting vote in favor of the Baja Californian. She argued that her decision was due to the need for a profile suitable for the current context of Inai, she explained that she reviewed the work program proposals of the three applicants and their profiles for determination.
He highlighted Alcalá Méndez ‘s 10 years of work at the institute and that he started from a technical area until reaching the position of commissioner, so he trusts that his “experience, talent and knowledge” will lead the organization; He added that there are coincidences in the candidates’ proposals and that they must work together to improve Inai.
In his inauguration message as president, Adrián Alcalá pointed out that the country requires “institutions convinced and committed to the power of democracy ” in addition to the urgency of finding “public institutions that serve, that resolve and that are at the same level as the height of the great national challenges and social demands.”
“I fervently believe that an informed society with an accountable government makes any municipality or federal entity a peaceful place that believes in its institutions and is nourished by the rule of law ,” declared the person who presides over Inai until 2026.
