On Thursday, December 14, 2023, , two earthquakes surprised residents of the nation’s capital without the Seismic Alert being activated.
Social media users reported that in Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, and other CDMX districts the tremors were fairly strong.
The Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) reported on the first earthquake in the country’s capital and indicated that the protocols for supervision in CDMX were activated.
The head of government, Martí Batres, reported that it was in the same epicentral area as last Tuesday, December 12th, in the Mixcoac area.
Meanwhile, he indicated that there were two movements, the second smallest, preliminary magnitude 3.2. So far no damage has been reported.
Earthquakes hit CDMX
The National Seismology reported that on Dec. 14th, at 2:12 p.m. an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 was recorded northeast of the Magdalena Contreras mayor’s office, with a depth of 1 kilometer.
The second microseism was south of Álvaro Obregón at 2:15 p.m., magnitude 2.4.
Due to the situation, the CDMX Metro indicated that the facility review protocol was carried out throughout the network. Minutes later, he pointed out that after the reviews the train circulation was normalized.

On December 12, four microearthquakes were recorded in CDMX, the first three were perceived by residents of the country’s capital, especially in the Mixcoac area, where it was later announced that there was damage to homes due to the telluric movements.
