After being presented in different forums, such as the Yucatán International Reading Fair (FILEY), the Mexican Tourist Market, and the International Tourism Seminar in Havana, Cuba, the book 20 Facts Chichén Itzá, the City of Mysteries, arrived in Valladolid, the Magic Town of Yucatán.

At the invitation of the Restaurant Association of Valladolid, Yucatán (ARVAY), the work was presented last night at La Casa de los Venados, Museum of Popular Mexican Art, located in the Historic Center of the city, before managers of restaurants, hotels, centers ecotourism, and business chambers, as well as exponents of culture and the media.

The presentation was given by the authors of 20 Facts Chichén Itzá, the journalist Félix Ucán Salazar the archaeologist Eduardo Pérez de Heredia, and the businessman Jordy Abraham Martínez, president of ARVAY, who highlighted the importance of promoting serious, professional editorial products, which offer real and truthful information about this emblematic site of the Mayan culture.

“For us, it is an honor to receive you in Valladolid and to have a book as valuable as 20 Facts, which tells the history of Chichén Itzá with very precise data that clarifies certain myths and highlights the value of this world heritage site. Promoting Chichén for tourism is also promoting Valladolid,” said the president of ARVAY.

The objective of the presentation is to offer the book in the restaurants, hotels, and ecotourism centers of Valladolid that receive national and international tourists who visit Chichén Itzá.

In his speech, Félix Ucán thanked Jordy Abraham and John Venator, owner of La Casa de los Venados, for their invitation and hospitality to present 20 Facts in Valladolid, a nearby event that is busy with tourists visiting the area. archaeological site of Chichen Itza.

The author of the book explained how the concept of this new cultural and tourist outreach product was designed, and the reasons why it was decided to use the number 20 to describe the most relevant events of Chichén Itzá, from the year 800 to 1200 of our era. , which marks the formal beginning and decline of the site, as well as the complementary information that this work includes, 10 words and 10 phrases in Mayan, and 20 tips with drawings by cartoonist Tony Peraza to recommend tourists a comfortable and safe visit to the archaeological zone.

Likewise, the journalist indicated that the book clarifies certain myths, such as that maidens were thrown into the Sacred Cenote and the winners of the Great Ball Game were sacrificed, which are widespread but false versions. Of all the skeletal remains rescued from the Cenote, the least there are women, there are more children and older adults, and in the Ball Game ritual the losers were sacrificed, not the winners, Ucán Salazar stressed.

In his speech, the archaeologist Eduardo Pérez, author of the academic script that supports the work, explained that 20 Facts is easy to read, entertaining, and well illustrated with images from the Guerra Photo Library, which show what Chichén was like before it was intervened, in order so that tourists can compare and appreciate the majesty of the archaeological zone in its current state.

Pérez de Heredia, the doctor in archeology and former director of the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, pointed out that the book contains valuable information, but the studies continue to advance and provide new data, which implies the need to update the content of this work that, By itself, it provides elements for readers to draw their conclusions.

At the end of the presentation, there was space for questions and comments. The event was led by teacher Ariel Sánchez y Gómez. Among the guests were Jesús Miranda Rosado, president of Coparmex Valladolid; Marlety Vidal Cruz, Vice President of Business Women of Canaco Servytur Valladolid, and Rosa Isela García Pantoja, president of the Mexican Association of the Tourism Industry (AMIT) Yucatán, among other directors.
