Downtown Merida businesses expect a significant economic spill in December

Starting in the second week, the strongest stage of the December commercial season began, in which an economic impact of more than 15 billion pesos (mmdp) is expected, said the head of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), in Mérida, Levy Abraham Macari.

He indicated that, in this period of high commercial activity, the expected income will exceed 700 million pesos (million pesos) more than what was obtained in 2022, when 14,300 million pesos (million pesos) were captured in seasonal sales. “We have seen a good influx of people into the Center; The places are still not as full as they will be next week, but we have seen a good response from people in the shops.”

Abraham Macari commented that since December 15, the payment of bonuses began to become “generalized” in companies, which, added to the fortnight, considerably increased the level of purchasing by Yucatecans and, therefore, sales. “Between the 15th and the 24th, is when we expect the greatest economic benefit, as people begin to collect bonuses and fortnights, so people will have more purchasing power and will go out to buy,” he said.

Likewise, he emphasized that the Historic Center of Mérida remains one of the busiest points in the city for supplies in December, not only for Merida residents, but also for people who come from the interior of the State to make their purchases.

“The Historic Center continues to be the largest shopping center in the State since many people from the different municipalities come to buy, and we have to say that the center continues to be the cheapest place. If you’ve shopped and gone to malls and somewhere downtown, you’ll notice (that) downtown continues to have more competitive prices for many reasons,” Abraham Macari continued.

When questioned about the spill left by the Buen Fin, he commented that they do not yet have the official figures, but everything indicates that the goal was exceeded. “We do not have the figures from the Ministry of Economy, but what we did see is that at Buen Fin there was a great influx in the squares, we saw in the tour we took and with those we asked and they exceeded expectations in sales; which leads us to think that the goal of 8 thousand 25 million pesos was exceeded, but we will corroborate it when the balance arrives, however, I dare to say that it was exceeded.”
